Proactive onsite physiotherapy must begin with a Task Analysis of the plant. With 25+ years’ experience as an onsite physiotherapist, Paul Romanin shares his thoughts & insights on proactive onsite physiotherapy measures.
At Melbourne Workplace Physiotherapy a key initial proactive measure we provide all clients to assist in workplace is safety & productivity is a Task Analysis of the whole plant environment.
A Task Analysis is a study of each task activity across the workplace.
Task Analysis are specific to the environment. Each task analysis involves an in-depth investigation of a specific task assessing worker postures, reach distance, bench heights, lighting, noise, temperature of the workstation, frequency of grip, lifting techniques & distances, weights lifted, rest breaks, job rotation & exposure to stressors in the environment.
This information MUST be accurate, succinct & easy to read. It must be clearly dated. At Melbourne Workplace Physiotherapy Photography analysis is used to aid in the description & ongoing shared learning of each task.
Once completed, the accuracy of documented Task Analysis must be discussed with relevant stakeholder in the workplace, such as leading hands, supervisors, process workers and OH&S managers. A review of this information should be on-going & any modification of the plant should be accompanied with an updated task analysis.
Past documents should always be filed and kept for future reference.
A Job Dictionary, a compilation of all the task analysis documents, can then be devised & created for the workplace.
The Task Analysis is a key communication tool with offsite healthcare professionals, to aid in their understanding of the workplace physical requirements within each workstation, potentially hastening treatments & outcomes for early return to work.
The Task Analysis plays an integral role in creating a safe & healthy working environment
It forms the foundation for other measures & programs, such as the development of, manual handling risk assessments & training programs, specific rehab protocols of workplace injuries and individualised Return to Work programmes. It also provides a guide for adequate pre-employment assessments for specific jobs/tasks.
